Boss Up
Meet The Boss
During a recent day trip from Ft. Lauderdale to Bimini, a small chain of beautiful islands that sit west of the Bahamas, I shared a glass of Rose’ with the ultimate #girlboss and #mompreneur, Danisha Rolle. Being in Danisha’s presence inspired me to challenge my inner boss and I learned a carat or two about what it takes to slay this thing called entrepreneurial life. This Chicago native is a strong, educated businesswoman and a beautiful wife and mommy. She is a creative entrepreneur and creator of SET- Sports and Entertainment Today Media.
As publisher and founder of Sports and Entertainment Today – SET – Magazine, Danisha has created an exclusive sports editorial that provides an in-depth look behind the scenes of famous athletes and celebrities, showcasing their families, vacations and lifestyle with vivid photographs and interviews. Athletes including Floyd Mayweather Jr., Laila Ali, Usain Bolt, Ray Lewis, Jared Boll, Lebron James, and Swin Cash have been featured in SET.
This brilliant business concept stands out in the market. SET’s unparalleled access to life events such as engagements, weddings, and exclusive events set them apart from other sports magazines. Their female readers identify SET as a leader in sports entertainment news and cover the most current and controversial topics. SET reveals the true identities of the world’s most intriguing athletes offering more than just stats. The magazine put a face to the names found in many sports reviews.
Like her magazine, Danisha has changed the game for wives of successful athletes. She paved her own lane and created an avenue that led to success with a brand that has such amazing caliber and credibility. All of this while wearing her crown as wife to Samari Rolle, former NFL All-Pro Veteran for the Tennessee Titans and Baltimore Ravens who together, share four children.
It was only fitting that we chat above the clouds to discuss her sound advice on success. So, here’s to you Mrs. Rolle for inspiring me to greatness while making the effort look flawless!
DS: Why do women need to take a proactive approach toward their success and achieving their dreams?
DR: Women need take a proactive approach toward their success and achieving dreams simply because if they don’t, those dreams and visions won’t happen. It’s a restless feeling to know you have potential or the ability to do something but just haven’t. Why not? Who wants to live with “what-ifs?” Time stops for no one so when the years go by, do you want to reflect thinking, “if only I had...?” I take a proactive approach because I want to make things happen. I owe it to those that have gone before me. I have opportunities that they were not afforded.
DS: What advice would you give your younger self?
DR: I would tell my younger self to always trust my instincts/ intuition in business and relationships. I have not gone wrong when I do. I would also throw out there, probably scream, with a clap on each word for emphasis - DUE-DILIGENCE.
DS: The greatest joy of being a mompreneur and wife?
DR: The greatest joy of being a mompreneur and wife is hearing my children ask if they can come to set with me. They look forward to going to photo shoots and movie sets. My middle children were proud about being featured in one of the issues of SET Magazine, they took it to school to show their friends and teachers. Knowing that my children and my husband are proud and supportive is definitely my greatest joy.
DS: What drives your passion?
DR: My passion is driven by my ability to affect pleasure and potential. I love to inspire. I love to get to know people. Really get to know them - get to the core of who they are, what made them that way, learn about the way they think and view things. That was one of the reasons I created SET Magazine. While I wanted to create a sports platform for women, I also wanted to showcase human interest pieces. The athletes and celebrities are human. Similarly, in the films that I produce, I like to get behind content that tells stories that make you think and feel good.
